Provides all the features of a standard word processing application such as spell checking, grammar and style controls, and the ability to type formatted texts such as letters or cards. It uses a GUI (graphical user interface) that has been internationalized; it supports languages with non-Latin alphabets, and also provides Unicode fonts. Allows simultaneous editing by several users working on different files: for example, two writers can both edit the same document at the same time. This is the latest version that the OpenOffice project released before Oracle decided to cancel further development of OpenOffice.org in favor of paying Oracle to use the more feature-rich but proprietary WPS Office Suite instead. Google Docs is a fully functional word processor, spreadsheet, presentation editor, drawing tool, and website creator which can be used online or downloaded onto your computer. It allows users to upload files up to 1 GB in size. There are also options for making documents "ad hoc" or invitational so you can share them with other Google users without giving them access to other shared documents. Documents may be password protected, and a document may be shared with a limited readership. Using Google Docs is similar to MS Office in functionality, but the interface differs from Office. The file format of Google Docs (.docs) is slightly different from Office (.doc or .xls) files. A difference is that MS Office files always start with a header, whereas Google Docs files do not. In addition, MS Word files have a four digit year stamp at the beginning of each page file name, whereas Google Docs does not have this feature. Both formats however support the OOXML standard for XML based word processing on Microsoft Windows systems as first defined by Microsoft's Open XML format specification and first launched as version 0. 50 of Microsoft Office 2007.
